# The Lycian Way from Kaş: one-day, three-day and five-day plans Updated: 2026-09-07 — https://ghostofkas.com/guides/lycian-way-from-kas/ Kaş sits in the middle of the Lycian Way, which makes it the easiest town on the trail to walk from. You do not need a tent, a month or a guidebook to see the best of the middle section: three of the finest stages start within a taxi ride of the harbour and each ends somewhere with a bed or a boat. This is how we would cut it, with one day, three days or five. ## One day: Kaş to Limanağzı and back by boat The stage everyone in Kaş should walk, and the one we use to find out whether a visitor is a walker. The path leaves the harbour past Büyük Çakıl beach, follows the cliffs east under Lycian rock tombs with Meis island alongside, and after 4 km and one roped rock step drops into Limanağzı, a bay with beach bars and no road. Swim, eat, take the water taxi back in the afternoon. Out of season, walk back the same way. Details, water and the boat question are on the Kaş to Limanağzı stage page. If you would rather climb than walk the coast, the morning up to the ruins of Phellos from Çukurbağ is the other Kaş day walk, with a taxi to the village and the whole gulf under you. ## Three days: the ghost cities section, Kaş to Simena Day one, Kaş to Boğazcık: the Limanağzı path and then the empty coast beyond it, about 19 km and 880 m of climbing in all, ending at a farming village with a pension, a campsite and the last reliable fountain for two days. Day two, Boğazcık down to Aperlai: 6.6 km of descent into a Lycian harbour town half under the sea, with two pensions and nothing else. Day three, Aperlai along the Kekova shore to Üçağız and Kaleköy: 10 km of boulders and thorn with the sunken city across the water, ending under the castle of Simena. That is five Lycian towns in three days, four of them without a road, and a bed every night. A boat and a transfer bring you back to Kaş from Üçağız in about an hour. Bags can be driven to Boğazcık and Üçağız and boated to Aperlai and Kaleköy, which is what we arrange when people write to us; the full version is the ghost cities section. ## Five days: add Phellos at the start and Demre at the end Day one, taxi to Gökçeören and the long ridge over Phellos to Çukurbağ, or the shorter Phellos out-and-back from Çukurbağ if 21 km sounds like too much for a first day; either way sleep in Kaş. Days two to four as above. Day five, Kaleköy over the headlands to Kapaklı and along the shore to Andriake and Demre, about 24 km, or split it with a night at Kapaklı and make it six days. Finish under the rock tombs of Myra with a bus back to Kaş in 45 minutes. Five days like this cover the whole middle of the trail from the hill city above Kaş to the harbour of Myra, with every ruin the coast has to offer and no camping. It is the plan we suggest most often to people who write with a week and a pair of boots. ## When to do it October and November, or late March to May. The sea is warm enough to swim into November and the pensions along the section are open until roughly the start of it; after that the plan bends around who is still taking guests, which we check for your dates. Summer is too hot for the exposed coast beyond Limanağzı. Winter is walkable and empty, but the Limanağzı boats stop and some pensions close; see the Lycian Way in winter. ## Getting to Kaş to start Antalya airport is about three and a half hours by bus, Dalaman about two and a half. Both are described in Antalya airport to Kaş and Dalaman airport to Kaş. Kaş has a gear shop, pharmacies, cash machines and a laundry, so you can arrive light and buy what you forgot. Where to sleep before and after the walk is in where to stay in Kaş. ## Questions people actually ask ### Can I walk the Lycian Way from Kaş without camping? Yes. Every stage between Kaş and Demre ends at a village with pensions in spring and autumn: Boğazcık, Aperlai, Üçağız, Kaleköy, Kapaklı and Demre. A tent is only needed beyond Demre on the Alaca Dağ crossing. ### How many days do I need for the Kaş section? Three for Kaş to Simena, five for Phellos to Demre. Each can be extended with rest days in Kaş or Kaleköy. ### Do I need a guide? Not for the path, which is waymarked and on OpenStreetMap. A licensed guide earns the fee on the ruins and on the stretch near Boğazcık where fake waymarks exist. We suggest one for at least the Aperlai day. ### How do I get back to Kaş from the end? From Üçağız by road transfer in about 40 minutes, from Kaleköy by boat to Üçağız first, from Demre by bus in about 45 minutes.
