The Ghost Cities section: Kaş to Simena on foot

Three or four days on the Lycian Way through five Lycian towns, one of them under the sea, with a bed every night and your bags moved.

Duration: 3–4 days, walking 3–6 h a day Season: October – November and March – May

The Lycian Way leaves Kaş harbour and, over the next three or four days, walks through Antiphellos, Aperlai, Teimiussa and Simena with the drowned city of Kekova across the water for the last of them. Four of those towns have no road. One is half under the sea. Nobody else frames this stretch as what it is: the ghost cities section, and the reason this site has the name it has.

We put it together as a walk rather than a tour. You walk the stages described on our stage pages, from Kaş to Limanağzı through Boğazcık and Aperlai to Üçağız and Simena. A licensed local agency books the beds, moves your bags by car and boat to the villages that can be reached, and sends a guide for the ruins if you want one. At the end a boat brings you back to Kaş, or you carry on to Demre.

There is no price on this page because there is no standard version. Two people in October with a guide for one day costs something different from six people in April carrying their own bags. Tell us your dates and we reply within a day with the plan and the agency's price.

Questions people actually ask

How fit do I need to be?

Able to walk five to six hours on rough ground with a day pack. The longest day is Limanağzı to Boğazcık at 15 km and 750 m of climbing; the others are shorter.

Can it be done without a guide?

Yes. The route is waymarked and mapped on OpenStreetMap. A guide earns their fee on the ruins and on the stretch near Boğazcık where fake waymarks exist, and we suggest one for at least the Aperlai day.

When is the best time?

October and early November, or April and May. Village pensions start closing from November; we check what is open for your dates before we confirm anything.

Why is there no price?

Because the price depends on group size, season, whether you want a guide and how the bags travel. The agency quotes once it knows those things, usually within a day.
