The Lycian Way in October, November and winter: what is actually open around Kaş

The Culture Routes Society says February to May or September to November, and that is right as far as it goes. What it does not say is what happens to the pensions in Boğazcık in the second week of November, or whether there is a boat back from Limanağzı in January. We live here. This is the month-by-month reality of the trail around Kaş, and we will keep it current each autumn.
October: the best month
Dry, warm, sea at 24 degrees, springs low but pensions open and the summer crowds gone. Every stage from Patara to Demre works. Days are shorter than in May, so the long stages, Gökçeören to Çukurbağ and Limanağzı to Boğazcık, want an early start. The Limanağzı water taxis still run. This is the month we would choose for the three-day ghost cities section if we could only choose one.
November: still good, check who is open
The first half of November is October with cooler evenings and the first rain. The sea is still swimmable. The change is the pensions: village places along the section start closing from the beginning of the month, some for good until March, some only when the last booking leaves. Aperlai’s two pensions and the Boğazcık pension are the ones to confirm; Üçağız and Kaleköy keep something open most of the winter. Ask us close to your dates and we will tell you exactly who is taking guests.
The Limanağzı boats thin out and may stop by mid-month. Plan to walk back or to continue to Boğazcık.
December to February: walkable, empty, wet
Kaş belongs to residents, climbers and walkers. Daytime temperatures sit around 15 degrees and frost is essentially unknown, but storms come through and the paths near the sea can be closed by swell for a day or two. Most tour operations pause. The trail itself is at its best: green, quiet, springs running. The problem is beds beyond Kaş. Aperlai and Boğazcık are usually closed, so winter walking means day walks from Kaş, or a night in Üçağız reached by road, rather than the through-route. No boats at Limanağzı; walk back.

March: the pensions come back
Wet early, fine late. Pensions reopen through the month, springs are full and the maquis flowers. The sea is cold. By the last week of March the through-route from Kaş to Demre is usually walkable with beds again, and April and May are the second good season, with the difference that May is already hot on the exposed coast beyond Limanağzı.
Summer, for completeness
Mid-May to mid-September is too hot for the exposed stages. People do walk Kaş to Limanağzı at seven in the morning and swim at the end, and that is fine. Anything longer on the peninsula in July is a medical decision. The boats and the pensions are all open; the sun is the problem.

Can you walk the Lycian Way in November?
Yes, and the first half is one of the best times. Village pensions start closing from early November, so confirm beds before committing to the through-route.
Is the Lycian Way open in winter?
The trail is always open. Around Kaş, day walks work all winter; the through-route to Demre depends on which pensions are open, and Aperlai and Boğazcık usually are not from December to February.
Does it rain a lot in winter?
Winter is the wet season, with storms passing through and dry days between them. It is rarely cold. Paths near the sea can be affected by swell.
When do the Limanağzı boats stop?
They thin out in November and generally stop for the winter. In that case you walk back to Kaş, which takes about an hour and a half.
