Göynük to Hisarçandır: the long forgotten finish

Updated: 2026-09-07

Until the extension of 2014, the Lycian Way ended at Hisarçandır, a village above Antalya with a bus into the city. It is still the point at which many walkers stop, and reaching it from the canyon mouth is a long, hard day: 19.3 km measured from the canyon to the village, with the guidebook giving 17 km to Elmayanı Yayla, and reports agreeing on poor waymarking and thorn.

There is a camp at Elmayanı and a homestay at Hisarçandır, and not much in between. Carry water from Göynük.

Stop here or go on?

Hisarçandır has a bus to Antalya and that is the argument for stopping. The three stages beyond it to Geyikbayırı and the 2022 extension to the edge of the city are worthwhile, particularly the pass over Trebenna, but they are the least developed part of the trail and the most likely to have closed pensions. Ask us close to your dates if you want to finish properly.
