Saklıkent — “the hidden city” — is an 18-kilometre gorge cut into the Akdağlar range, one of the deepest in the Mediterranean. You cross the entry channel on a boardwalk bolted to the rock, then wade upstream between walls that close to a few metres apart, in water that is snow-fed and genuinely cold in the middle of August.
Gizlikent is the part most day trips skip. A separate, quieter gorge nearby, reached on foot through the streambed, ending at a waterfall that falls into a pool you can stand under. It is the reason to take this version rather than the standard canyon stop.
The transport is the other half of the day. Open-top safari cars run the mountain villages with water pistols on board, and the villages fight back — this is a tradition here, not a gimmick, and you will arrive wet before you ever reach the river. Breakfast on the way, lunch by the water.

What is Gizlikent and how is it different from Saklıkent?
Gizlikent is a smaller gorge in the same area, reached by walking up the streambed to a waterfall you can stand under. Saklıkent is the famous deep canyon. This tour does both, which is what separates it from the standard Saklıkent stop.
How cold is the water?
Snow-fed and genuinely cold — roughly 10–15°C even in August. On a hot day that is exactly the point; you are in it for minutes at a time, not hours.
What is the water pistol about?
Jeep safaris on this coast come with a water fight through the villages, and locals join in with hoses. If you would rather stay dry this is the wrong tour; if you have children it is usually their favourite part of the day.
Is it suitable for children?
The first section suits confident walkers of most ages, and guides help at the entry crossing where the current is strongest. Small children can enjoy the boardwalk and the riverside without wading far.
What should I wear?
Swimwear or quick-dry clothes and water shoes — rentable at the entrance if you do not own any. Phones go in dry bags; the river takes a toll on unprotected electronics every single day.
How far is Saklıkent from Kaş?
About an hour and a half by road each way. Tours run it as a full day, roughly eight to nine hours door to door with village and photo stops.
